Here’s how to make:

Gather your ingredients to create which are just a few for this recipes. You’ll need to get marshmallows, rice kripie treats, butter, almond bark and a variety of red and blue sprinkles.

* If you are using a Melting Pot to melt your almond bark, start melting it now so it’s ready to use when it’s time to decorate with the kids.

This is a perfect time to work on measurement with your child. Have them measure out the correct amount of ingredients.

Start first by melting the butter in the microwave.

Be sure to discuss with your child safety in handling hot containers from the microwave during this step.

Then add your marshmallows to the melted butter and stir to coat. Then microwave in 45 second increments until melted, stirring every 45 seconds.

Once they are melted together, now it’s time to add the last 1 cups of marshmallows for that extra deliciousness! They will not melt completely.

The next step is then to slowly fold toasted rice cereal into the marshmallow mixture.

During this time you can also stir your red, white and blue colored sprinkles into your mixture to combine for some patriotic fun.

Now comes the fun part! After combining, have your child press the rice krispies on a surface that has been lined with parchment paper (or on a baking sheet) about the same thickness as your cookie cutters.

This works with other shapes and holidays too!

The next step is to cut stars into your patriotic treats using cookie cutters and then place on a cooling rack or parchment paper.

The pops of red, white and blue make this a fun dessert idea for the 4th of July, but we’re doing to add a bit more to make it extra special. You ready?

To add this extra fun with red, white and blue we need to use melted almond bark to make the edible decorations stick.

To get started, melt the almond bark according to the directions on the package or use a melting pot.

Once melted completely, drizzle almond bark over star treats that are on the cooling racks or wax paper.

Then let your child have fun by sprinkling with the red and blue sprinkles to finish.

Cool completely and enjoy!
